Frequently Asked Questions

How do Telehealth visits work?

We offer telehealth visits to patients in California and Colorado. These are conducted through a secure platform. Telehealth visits are approximately 1 hour and billed on the same fee schedule as listed under services. We can also plan a hybrid of in person and telehealth visits depending on your needs and availability.

Do you take insurance?

We are an out of network provider, meaning that we do not bill insurance companies. This allows us to work with the patient in regards to their plan of care instead of the insurance company. We are not limited by visit number constraints or held up by waiting for authorization. Upon request, we can provide you with a superbill which you can submit to your insurance company if you wish to explore reimbursement.

Do I need a referral?

No. In California, you can seek physical therapy care without a referral for 45 days or 12 visits, whichever comes first. After this time, PT+ can request a referral for continued care. Depending on how recently you’ve seen your medical provider, this may require an appointment with them.

For Colorado residents, no referral is required.

What should I expect at my first visit?

At PT+, we take a whole body approach to pelvic health. Your therapist will take a detailed history and discuss your goals.  Then they will perform a full evaluation looking at how you move from head to toe. We will then take a closer look at the pelvis and pelvic floor muscles. This can be done both externally (with or without clothing) and/or internally through the vaginal or rectal canal. Your therapist will discuss all exams and treatments with you prior to performing. It is ALWAYS the patient’s decision regarding what you are comfortable with and your therapist will be happy to answer any questions or concerns.

Do you only work with pelvic health conditions?

No! We have an extensive background in orthopedics and are happy to treat any and all physical therapy needs!

I don’t live in California, can I still work with you?

We are only licensed in California and Colorado. *Colorado residents can be seen through telehealth visits only

Am I going to have to get undressed?

Your choice! Pelvic health therapists can gain a lot of valuable information about your pelvic floor by doing both external and internal vaginal or rectal assessments. This consists of a gloved and lubricated finger inserted into the vaginal or rectal canal. The therapist can then assess your muscles for tenderness, stiffness, and strength. However, it is ALWAYS your choice if you wish to have a pelvic floor muscle assessment. There are plenty of other things we can work on without it!

What is pelvic PT?

Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized approach that uses physical methods of assessing, strengthening, or relaxing muscles of the pelvic floor and core in order to address bladder, bowel, and sexual function.

What is the pelvic floor?

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that attaches from the pubic bone in the front to the tailbone in the back and from the bottom of the pelvis on each side. These muscles support your pelvic organs (bladder, colon, vagina/uterus if you have one). They are an important group of muscles for bladder, bowel, and sexual function.

How often should I plan to come?

This will depend on your diagnosis, severity, goals, availability, etc. Your therapist will discuss this with you on your initial consult call or at your evaluation.
